Community CAMHS

We provide support for children and young people aged 0-18, their families and carers across:

The children and young people we work with may be experiencing severe or complex mental health problems and neuro-developmental disorders. These have a significant impact on the child's development and can cause distress to them and their carers.

We offer a range of support and treatment options. Professionals in CAMHS work together with children, young people and their families to try to overcome their difficulties using evidence-based treatments.

Together, we create goals and keep track of how the child or young person is doing to make sure the support is helping. We hold regular reviews to think about treatment options. Children and young people may need different types of treatment depending on their age and developmental stage.

We also offer information and support evenings for parents and carers of young people who self-harm, and non-violent resistance sessions for parents and carers to allow them to confidently de-escalate conflict at home.

We have bases at Pebble Bridge in Nottingham, Lindsay Close in Mansfield, Balderton Primary Care Centre, Lowfield Lane, Newark, and the Langold Clinic in Worksop. However, most of our work takes place in the community.

Our staff

The Community CAMHS teams are made up of:

  • Community psychiatric nurses
  • Therapists, family support workers
  • Specialist practitioners
  • Peer support workers
  • Psychologists
  • Non-medical prescribers
  • Psychiatrists

The patient journey

The first appointment will be an assessment to see what support is needed. A worker will be allocated to the child or young person and further appointments will be arranged if they are needed.

If we aren’t the right people to help, we will direct the child or young person to the right service.

The child or young person will be involved in the planning of their care as well as decisions about discharging them from the service. If the young person stays in the service until they are 17 years and 6 months, they will be supported in the transition to adult mental health services.
